Libations Holiday Guide For 2018

It’s that time of year again…holiday season. Time to think about a thoughtful gift for those near and dear.

If your cha-ching is on point, maybe you can spend a few more coins on a gift for your favorite wine/spirit drinker. The gift may may even be for yourself. I won’t tell if you don’t. That being said, there are some affordable options that are perfect picks to add to a home bar or wine collection.

Here are some of my suggestions:

Charles Krug Cabernet Sauvignon Vintage Selection 2015 ( $125)

For the red wine lover who would appreciate a stellar wine for their collection pick up a bottle of Charles Krug Cabernet Sauvignon from their vintage line. Krug is known for their full-bodied reds that get better with age. The wine is a blend of  96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot, a perfect combination. Some of the best Cali reds around.

Booker Vineyard My Favorite Neighbor Paso Robles 2016 ($80.00)

Made by winemaker, Eric Jensen, a former music business agent-turned wine entrepreneur with a runaway success brand on his hands, Booker Vineyard,  The wine has notes of  notes of crème de cassis, lead pencil shavings, licorice, smoke tobacco, and hints of violets. Great choice for a wine collector. What also makes the wine special is the unique label showcasing people on the winemaking team.

Hennessy Master Blender’s Selection No 3 ($110.00)

For the Francophile and Cognac lover the latest edition of the Master Blender’s is a must have. The limited edition Cognac is crafted with 20 rare eaux-de-vie.  While it’s 3rd bottle in the series, it’s the first bottle created by the 8th generation cellar master Renaud Fillioux de Gironde. Long story short, this Henny is smooth and sexy AF.

Saint-Vivant Armagnac ($27.99)

For the brandy lover who digs a good French spirit. A lot of people still don’t know about Armagnac which is why this would be a nice surprise and a good intro to the spirit. The famous “crooked bottle” recalls the original bottles used by St. Vivant. It’s a great intro to Armagnac or a lovely choice for someone who is already into the spirit.

Speyburn 10 Year Single Malt Scotch ($34.99)

If you are looking for the perfect gift to get a whisky fan, go with a single malt Scotch. The single malt is becoming a big deal so it’s great for a home bar. Speyburn’s 10 year is aged in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, it’s a little sweet and a bit smokey. It’s a great value. What could be better than that?!

Château de Berne Rosé Inspiration ($19.99)

You don’t have to wait until the summer to give the gift of rose. A Chateau de Berne produces wonderful rosé in design forward bottles. Inspiration is an award winning wine that has notes of strawberries, cherries, and pomegranate. I love this wine, it’s the perfect representation of a Provence rosé. If you can’t find this wine, but find other rosé from this producer, get it. All of their wine gets a thumbs up.

Fenimore Gin ($35.00)

If you want to give a unique gin…go with a bottle of Fenimore Gin produced in New York. While it has the typical  juniper berry and citrus peel the spirit turns the corner with more esoteric botanicals like vanilla, mallow root, eucalyptus, New York lilac, and star anise which is a not typically found in gin.  The spirit is named after the prolific 19th century American writer, James Fenimore Cooper, who wrote Last of the Mohicans.

Dow’s 10 years Old Tawny Port ($34.99)

A sweet wine with a balance of cocoa, chocolate, and fig aromas. Can you say delish? It’s a classy and elegant wine for someone who likes to entertain or loves a good port with their dessert. While it’s good in the winter, this one can be serve slightly chilled during the summer. Port is full of magick!

Gonzalez Bypass 12 year Leonor Palo Cortado Sherry ($29.99)

The tv show Frasier, put me onto sherry as it did many people. A bottle of sherry is a sweet way to show some love this season. Gonzalez Bypass has you covered with a 12 year old Palo Cortado that has aromas of almonds, ginger, and citrus. Comes complete with intense aromas of hazelnuts and mature wood. Get it for your bougie and selective friend or lover, they will love it.
