Pompette Notes: Arrogant Frog Chardonnay 2015 (Lily Pad White)
I can’t remember when or where I first saw a bottle of Arrogant Frog wine. What I do remember is that I was charmed by the label. It peaked my interest due to its fun French flair.
When I was offered a sample of the Arrogant Frog Chardonnay, I hopped at the chance ( yes the bad pun is totally intended). I tend to dig Chardonnay from regions in Europe over the ones made in the U.S. I’m not about Chardonnay wine that taste like I’m licking a stick of butter. So not about that life.
The Frog’s vines are born and bottled in Languedoc-Roussillon in southern France by Domaines Paul Mas. The vineyard is one of Languedoc’s most influential producers now run by winemaker, Jean-Claude Mas. Arrogant Frog represent the “Art de Vivre” what the South of France is all about. The expressions for the line of hip wines are creative and frisky with a touch of elegance.
The winery believes in a New World philosophy, but produces quality wine like an Old World Château. Long story short, the Frog wants you to enjoy yourself as you sip and pair. I’ve noticed that the mascot for the wines look like he is having a grand ‘ole time on his adventures. If only I could kiss the frog and turn him into a prince. Alas, I will have to settle enjoying him on the bottle.
A yellow gold wine with notes of vanilla, hazel nuts, and pineapple as it hits the nose. It’s a young wine, but has good legs to stand on. As it hits the palate the vanilla shines through with an elegant fruit finish. I remember “oh la la” a lot as I drank the wine.
I paired with baked cod and loved every delicious minute of it. Fried shrimp, crab cakes, mac & cheese, or a big fluffy salad would be a lovely pairing as well.
The icing on the cake is that the wine is only around $10. That means that you can rock a bottle or two while binging on Netflix or take it to a soiree.
Pompette Tip: Stock up on this one, cause you and your squad will want some more.
While you sip Arrogant Frog Chardonnay listen to my curated “Arrogant Playlist” filled with songs with a little arrogance. If you don’t toot your own darn horn who will? Some of the songs on the playlist: Demi Lovato: Sorry Not Sorry, Cardi B: Bodak Yellow, Zara Larsson: So Good, Whitney Houston: I’m Every Woman, Notorious B.I.G: Juicy and so many more tunes perfect to listen to while sipping the wine. Cheers!
