Master Blender’s Selection No. 2

Hennessy is an icon and Cognac’s biggest producer. In other words. Henny is the BOSS of the Cognac world. That gives them the freedom to mix things up by releasing single batch Cognac that is never replicated. Last year the Master’s Blend Selection No 1 arrived and it tasted a bit like a bourbon. If you missed getting a bottle, it’s all good because Master Blender’s Selection No. 2 is here.

The second batch of the series is crafted with eaux-de-vie that are aged least 10 years, and aged for 18 months in young coarse-grained French oak barrels before being transferred to old barrels for additional aging. It’s been bottled at 43% to give it a long and smooth finish.

On the nose are notes of cloves, vanilla, and licorice. This go round the blend is spicier when it hits the palate. When I first tasted it, rum came to mind.  Trying the Master Blender’s Selection No. 2 on a different night at the launch party in DUMBO, Brooklyn gave me a completely different experience.

The good news is that the Master Blender’s Selection No. 2 is pretty darn good. It can be used in cocktails or served neat. The bad news you may have to do detective work to track down a bottle, It will be available in select United States markets in limited quantities.

If you do manage to get your hands on the golden bottle, you will be winning. It’s the mic drop for Yann Fillioux, Hennessy’s departing master blender. So, don’t fall to in love with it because once it’s gone..that’s it.

Shout out to the Hennessy crew for the sample and the fabulous personalized passport holder by Will Leather Goods.
