The East coast burger will meet West Coast wine for the third year of Somms and Sliders. It’s Napa Valley wines paired with NYC burgers and what’s not to love about a good burger while sipping fabulous wine. The program will run at select NYC restaurants from October 20th, 2017 to November 5, 2017.
I had the pleasure of getting a preview during a pairing lunch at Aureole with their head sommelier, Morgan Harris. The restaurant’s is offering the Aureole burger and fries paired with a Napa Valley Red Blend. The burger is adorned with bacon, cheddar, lettuce, secret sauce, lettuce, and onion on a brioche bun. The pairing was spot on, I’d go in for it again.
Some of the other participating restaurants are:
- 21 Club with the 21 Burger paired with a Cabernet Sauvignon
- City Winery with a Lamb Tzatziki Slider paired with a Cabernet Franc
- Schnipper’s with a Classic Burger paired with a Cabernet Sauvignon
- Charlie Parker Steak New York with the 50-50 Burger paired with a Cabernet Sauvignon
There’s a pairing for if you want to get a little fancy or if you want to go casual. Plus there’s something uptown and downtown so you should be able to find a restaurant near you. I think I’m going to make a special trip to Schnipper’s to check out their pairing, it sounds too good to pass up.
As you know Napa Valley (and Sonoma) has been hit hard with wildfires. Going for a bite during Somms and Sliders is a good way to support the wine region. Get all of the information on where and what the pairings are by perusing the Somms and Sliders website. Be ready, because it’s going to make you very hungry.
