Pompette Notes: Crios Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

I heard rumors about Susana Balbo’s wine, well actually more like raves. Everyone who sipped her wine on social media was going on and on about how delicious her wines are. I finally got the opportunity to get up close and personal with her magick in a bottle. Consider me #winning.

The Crios Cabernet Sauvignon 2015  is produced by Susana Balbo, Argentina’s leading and most innovative winemaker. After working as a wine consultant in Argentina and around the globe for about twenty year, Balbo founded her winery, Dominio del Plata, in the Mendoza region in 1999.

When translated Crios means “offspring” in Argentine slang. The wines are fruit forward and meant to be enjoyed while they are young. The hand harvested Cabernet Sauvignon has aromas of plums and cherries with a touch of vanilla. It’s 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. It spends about 9 months in a French oak barrel in the Uco Valley and & Luján de Cuyo regions.

Tasting Notes:

A big flirty red that dances on the palate. The smells of plum and cherries will excite your senses. Let’s just say that this wine doesn’t disappoint. If you like reds from Argentina, you will dig this one. Pair with steak, grilled chicken, empanadas, or baked eggplant.

Pompette Tip:  A red that will become one of your go to wines once you try it.  Perfect to take to a dinner party. So elegant in taste, people will assume you spent more on it than you do.
