American Airlines has come up with a good reason get to the airport early. They have revamped their lounges with a nice chunk of change aimed to satisfy luxury travelers. For their customers flying in Flagship First, prior to takeoff they can have a five-star restaurant dining experience. Travelers flying First or Business class on qualifying international or transcontinental flights by American qualify for this service at no additional charge.
The menu includes breakfast options and all day dining options designed by a team of chefs. All of the specialty cocktails were designed by New York based mixologist, Pamela Wiznitzer. The signature wine list was hand-picked by Master Sommelier, Desmond Echavarrie. The menu is seasonal to offer the freshest ingredients available in each designated region. If beer or champagne is your thing, those options are also available. Everything is served in a VIP dining space with a private bar.
The airline had a wicked launch party in New York to give a first-hand preview and taste of the experience. A lot of care and detail has been given to the menu. The cheeses on the menu that come from Sprout Creek Farm pair wonderfully with the wine options. The beef in the burgers from Joyce Farms is grass-fed and natural. One bite into the burger, the quality of the meat is evident. It’s food that makes hanging out in an airport lounge well worth it.
If you aren’t a fan of airplane eats this is definitely the way to go before taking off. For now the Flagship First Dining is open in New York, JFK. The next selected spots to open are Miami, Los Angeles, Dallas Forth Worth, and London Heathrow.
