Being a wine witch I love to see to see how people pair food and wine which is why I was totally into Play Food & Wine in Ottawa.
Play is a culinary adventure created by Stephen Beckta and Chef Michael Moffatt of the renowned Beckta Dining & Wine. The menu consists of small plates paired with wine by the glass. When I was there for a press trip, we went there for lunch and had a very lovely time. Lunch happens to be the most popular time to visit PLAY. The experience is major bang for your buck with lunch for $22 bucks.
When I selected my two dishes, I stuck to the food and wine paired suggested on the menu. However, you can pair pretty much any wine on the wine list with the dish that you are having. My first course was the fresh fig with orange, walnut , and goat cheese paired with a Pinot Gris. My other course as the grilled hanger steak with fries and a glass of red wine from France. Do know that the menu is always on the move and changes throughout the season. Basically don’t get attached to pairing because it may be gone next time you go there for dinner.
It’s wonderful place for a date or girl’s night out. There are wines from different wine regions and it’s sure to please your palate. As a side note, know that the wine list is an award winner. It will take your palate to France, California Spain, or Italy. There are a few Ontario wine options as well. The list is well curated list by their in house sommelier.
Long story short, it’s good dining experience for food and wine lovers so stop in for lunch or din din.
