Pompette Notes: Mercer Estates Sharp Sisters Red Blend 2013

A wonderful juicy red wine from  is Washington State by Mercer Estates produced on their Horse Heaven Hills Estate. This handcrafted wine is a tribute to Carma Sharp-Mercer and her sisters. The grapes in this wine are Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Malbec, Sangiovese, and Petit Verdot. On the nose will be blackberries, plums, cherries, vanilla, and black pepper. The wine was aged for 28 months in oak barrels prior to blending.

Winemaker’s notes:

Washington Merlot is supple but retains its’ structure and minerality due to the cooler climate. This is why it was selected to be the main component of this voluptuous blend. Bursting ripe blueberries and plums with a touch of caramel greet you on the nose. The combination of ripe fruit and sleek tannins creates a wine that is broad and powerful, yet elegant. The ripe flavors in the mouth lead into a soft, lingering finish with a touch of bright acidity that leaves you wanting more.

I had the wine with a filet mignon and it was superb.  It brought the flavor of the steak. This wine would also be fabulous beef, roast chicken, garlic potatoes (mashed or home fries), Texas bbq, fruit and cheese plate, and pot roast. This wine is so worth your time.  I believe that it’s sold out at the moment, but will return. Get it!

Pompette Tip: A sexy juicy red wine that is great with meat and other hearty meals.
