Looking for something something smooth and seductive to sip? Say hello to my delicious friend, Botran Reserva.
Botran Reserva is a blend of rums aged for 5-14 years refined through a Solera system in a mix of American whiskey, port, and sherry barrels. It has been named one of the top ten rums by Drink International Magazine. The hand-crafted rum is produced by the Botran family who have been making rum in Guatemala for more than six decades.
The copper-colored rum is incredibly smooth with a balance of oak and sweetness. I love the aromas in this rum which include vanilla, oak, new leather, dried cherries, and spices. What’s also great about Botran Reserva is that while is has a luxury taste, it has an affordable price.
This is a an ideal rum for all summer cocktails, to paired with champagne, or even if you just want to sip it on the rocks. Since it’s so smooth, you may not want to mix it with anything. It is the perfect to go rum for all of your needs.
I used the rum to make mojitos and they were a huge hit. The Botran website also has recipes like Botran Pasion Del Cielo (see below) if you need inspiration. Once you try it, Botran Reserva will probably be your go to rum. Cheers!
10 fresh mint leaves
1/2 lime, cut into 4 wedges
2 tablespoons white sugar, or to taste
1 cup ice cubes
1 1/2 fluid ounces Botran rum
1/2 cup club soda
Place mint leaves and 1 lime wedge into a sturdy glass. Use a muddler to crush the mint and lime to release the mint oils and lime juice. Add 2 more lime wedges and the sugar, and muddle again to release the lime juice. Do not strain the mixture. Fill the glass almost to the top with ice. Pour the rum over the ice, and fill the glass with carbonated water. Stir, taste, and add more sugar if desired. Garnish with the remaining lime wedge.
