It’s not hard to find a good sandwich in New York City. However when you want a pairing experience with your sandwich, make your way to II Bambino. They take sandwiches to a whole other level.
II Bambino has hand-made meats, cheeses, and fresh bread. In fact, their panini bread is baked for them fresh every day. They haven taken the panini tradition from the old country and added a modern twist. Their first location for was in Astoria about eight years ago when there were no paninis in the neighborhood. Slowly but surely their shop took off. Now they have a sparkly new shop in the West Village.
I was invited to check out the new location and it was such a delicious time. Darren Lawless, the owner, helped us kick things off with the PuPu Platter, a mix of the crostinis. There is no way to go wrong with the crostinis. Every one of them was so good! My favorite was the truffle egg salad. Let’s just say truffle become the theme for the evening. I love truffle anything and everything.
After the platter we had the Roast Mushroom panini which was roast mushrooms, caramelized onions, dirty chips, truffle spread, and fontina cheese.
Throughout the meal we paired wines accordingly with what we were eating. The wine and beer list includes a lot of options so you can have full a sensory experience with your paninis. If you don’t know what beer or wine to drink, be sure to ask the staff. They know their stuff and are happy to help.
I will also add that II Bambino would be a great place for a girl’s night out or a date night. It’s laid back yet the food is on point.
