Pompette Notes: Pratsch Grüner Veltliner: The Latest Hot White Wine

There is an Austrian white wine that is becoming a star in the US. It’s the very food friendly, Grüner Veltliner ,that goes great with chicken, fish, or veggies. It’s a white wine made with a grape variety mainly from Austria, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic.

I was excited to try the 2014 Pratsch Grüner Veltliner by winemaker, Stefan Pratsch. It’s a dry wine with touches of apple, peach, and spice aromas. It’s ages for about four months or less so it’s young wine. Make sure you should drink within 3 years of the vintage date. This is also an organic wine that is certified by the Austria Bio Garantie. In fact Pratsch is an organic winery so you can trust that if you are having one of their wines it will be organic.

I paired the wine with a spinach, feta, and garlic pizza and it was wonderful. It’s the kind of wine that really can go good with a lot of things, plus it’s very affordable. It will only run you around $14 to $18 bucks. White wine drinkers will really dig this wine. Put it on your list for the summer and spring months.

Witch On Wine Rating: 16.9 out of 20 points. A very nice white wine for summer, spring and anything in between.
